If you’re new to the world of U.S. Kids Golf tournaments, you’ll quickly hear the term Priority Status. What does it mean? How is it earned? And why does it matter?
Priority Status is a structured system used by U.S. Kids Golf to determine when players receive invitations to register for Multi-Day Events, such as State, Regional, International, European, and World Championships. It creates a clear, merit-based pathway for junior golfers to progress from Local Tours to the highest levels of competition.
This guide explains Priority Status in simple terms and clarifies how it is officially earned.
Priority Status is a 15-level ranking system that players can earn by participating in U.S. Kids Golf tournaments. A player’s Priority Status level determines the order in which they receive invitations to register for Multi-Day Events.
Higher Priority Status means earlier access to registration for limited-field championships. Priority Status can be earned either by score or by order of finish, depending on the event.
Players can earn Priority Status by score through both Local Tours and Multi-Day Events:
* A player’s two lowest scores, totalled within the same Local Tour season, are used.
* Players must compete in a minimum of four (4) Local Tour events within the same season and on the same Local Tour to earn Priority Status.
* A player’s two lowest scores, totalled within the same Multi-Day Event, are used to determine Priority Status.
* The player’s two lowest scores combined must total 180 (for 18 holes) or 90 (for 9 holes) or lower.
* Players must compete in at least four (4) Local Tour events within the same season and on the same Local Tour.
* Priority Status by order of finish is determined by the player’s final position at the end of the Local Tour season, not individual tournament results.
* Priority Status by order of finish is used for European, World, and World Teen Championships.
* Players may slightly improve their Local Tour score-based status through order of finish, provided scoring requirements are met.
Priority Status determines when players are invited to register for major U.S. Kids Golf events. Since many championships have limited fields, invitations are sent out in Priority Status order**, starting with the highest levels.
This system ensures that players who consistently perform well and commit to playing events are given earlier access to the most competitive tournaments.
Priority Status is a key part of the U.S. Kids Golf tournament structure. It rewards consistent participation and strong performance while providing families with a transparent and fair pathway to elite junior golf events.
By understanding how Priority Status works, players and parents can better plan their tournament schedules and work toward qualifying for the most prestigious U.S. Kids Golf championships around the world.
